I have been reflecting on my school improvement project, which I call the Victory Project. I rolled out the concept to the staff last week, and now I can see clearly through words, actions, and inactions, who see the need for urgency and who is still complacent.
Those that see the need for urgency I call the Urgent Minority. These are the staff members who can see that the vision of the school has yet to be achieved and that there is still much work to do. The Urgent Minority see that we have many opportunities that need to be exploited and that not moving forward is hazardous. The Urgent Minority sees that we must grow together as a staff and strengthen our educational program.
Then there are those who don’t see any of these things. I call them the Complacent Majority. Sadly, most of the staff had demonstrated that they don’t clearly see the opportunities and needs of the school. They honestly don’t understand the need for change. They honestly don’t see that complacency exists.
So, the Victory Project hangs on moving the Urgent Minority to the majority and moving the Complacent Majority to the minority. Nobody said it would be easy, but that is the challenge. No, that is the “opportunity.”
This Urgent Minority includes those who write and blog about education, technology, marketing, creativity, innovation, and hundreds of other topics. We see clearly the need for change and the urgency of the times we live in. I am proud to be a member of the blogosphere and glad that we happy few continue to be a voice for change in our respective fields, organizations, businesses, or schools.
