What do you get when you combine education with school plans, shots of tequila, advertising, fun, South Carolina, and soul? Let's put them in the Education Innovation blender and take a look.
I have helped write several school plans. They are straight forward "fill in the template", plain and boring. They live in binders on a shelf and never get looked at. But, if I could write my own school plan, this is what I would love it to look like. Brains on Fire, is an advertising company based in South Carolina. They are more that just an advertising or marketing company, they are a mindset, a culture, a way of life. Most importantly they are fun. They have written a manifesto for their beliefs and attitudes. It's called Tequila Shots (I love it). It has 12 things that they believe in. Here is a sampling...
That is my idea of a school plan. It's motivating, meaningful, and powerful. It connects with the person on a deeper level and inspires. No school plan I have ever looked at has ever inspired me. It's filled with lots of little numeric goals like, "Raise math scores in 4th grade by 10 points as evidenced by the district assessments and end of year state test scores." Does that motivate you?
The difference between school plans and the Brains on Fire manifesto Tequila Shots is............Soul.
(You can find the complete PDF download on the Brains on Fire blog in the right side column)
Thanks for sharing this. I love the idea of school plans with soul...
